Lizzy's Heart Journey

At Lizzy’s two week check up, her pediatrician heard a murmur and sent us to see a cardiologist who found that she has a ventricular septal defect (VSD), which is a hole in the bottom two chambers of her heart, and pulmonary valve stenosis. Later we found out that she also has an atrial septal defect (ASD), which is a hole in the top two chambers of her heart. Lizzy has struggled to gain weight since birth and was admitted to Texas Children’s Hospital at 10 weeks old. She was put on diuretics, blood pressure medication, and fortified milk. Lizzy was sent home to gain weight until her surgery on October 17th. 2 weeks before surgery Lizzy caught a cold which caused worse feeds and very little weight gain. Due to this, surgery was canceled and Lizzy was hospitalized again at 15 weeks old. She was placed on a NG tube and sent home until her new surgery date on October 27th.

We have such a great support system that always shows up for us and we are so thankful for that. During our entire stay we are only allowed 6 visitors, so we won't be able to allow everyone to come however, during the days and weeks following Lizzy's heart surgery, we are going to need some help so we can stay in Houston with her as she recovers.
